Landstar Listed Among Forbes Magazine's Platinum 400 List of America's Best Big Companies

January 8, 2003 Jacksonville, Florida - (LSTR:NASDAQ) Landstar System, Inc., a safety-first non-asset based provider of transportation capacity, made Forbes Magazine's Platinum 400 List of America's Best Big Companies, for the fourth consecutive year. Landstar is ranked among the top companies in its category of "Travel and Transport."

"These 400 corporations must show strategy, stamina and growth to standout among the others," according to the January 6, 2003 issue of the magazine. "All the Forbes 400 companies were selected based on the best aggregate scores for long- and short-term financial returns on capital, plus other performance and valuation measures."

According to the Forbes listing, Landstar's stock price has increased 297 percent over the last five years.

To be considered for the list, companies with annual sales of at least $1 billion must meet or exceed the highest level of financial requirements as well as demonstrate the qualities Forbes editors see as essential to growth and profitability.
